5 Relationship Red Flags

When you're in a relationship, it can be tough to tell if you're seeing your significant other for who they are or not. It's all too easy to be caught up in the thrill of a new romance and not pick up on key signs of a toxic or unhealthy relationship. Red flags can be a sign that something is wrong, or maybe just an indicator that you need to talk and make sure you're on the same page.

1.) They never talk about the future

If they're scared to make commitments further than a week in advance then that could be a really bad sign. This could signal that your partner doesn't picture a future with you. Not that they need to be thinking years in advance, but talking about trips in the summer or holiday plans is a great sign of a healthy, happy relationship.

2.) They don't introduce you to their friends

It's normal to wait a little while after you first start going steady to get your friends involved, but if you go weeks or even months without meeting a single friend, then that could be a bad sign. If they don't want to introduce you to their friends then they could see you as more of a friend with benefits or just not expect you to be around for long enough that they'd want to introduce you to the friend group.

3.) They always text you at 3 A.M. and never 3 P.M.

If "Hey, you up?" is the only text you ever seem to get from bae then it may be time to have a serious talk. Yes, life can get pretty busy, but if you only get texts asking to hook up and not to hang out then you might need to have a talk about your relationship.

4.) Your friends and family don't like him

If you're smitten with your new boo, then you may not pick up on some of their bad habits or unhealthy behaviors. Lucky for you, friends and family are quick to pick up on these kinds of things. If he's rude to you in any way, then you can trust a bestie or one of your parents to relay it back to you later and it may open your eyes to things you didn't notice before.

5.) They always flake out on plans

If you're repeatedly getting stood up for dinner dates and cancelled on for lunch, then that could be a warning of deeper issues for your relationship. If your partner really likes you then they'll want to spend time with you, no matter how busy they might be at times. You should be a priority to them if things are going well. If you feel yourself being dropped further and further down their list of priorities then it could be time to have a serious talk.
